The September 19, 2026 Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta date has passed. The Island Menâs event page now marks that edition as past. No next-edition date was found on the organizer pages checked October 4, 2026, so wait for a new announcement before booking a trip around the races.
The event is a community fundraiser at the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin off Carl Winner Drive, not Carolina Beach Lake. This page retains the verified 2026 location and advertised format, then explains what needs a fresh check for a future visit. It is not a race-results report or confirmation that every advertised activity took place.
What the 2026 listing advertised
The Island Menâs official event page described paddlers and drummers at its 13th annual fundraiser racing dragon boats on a 300-meter course inside the yacht basin, with vendors, music, food, and family activities around the marina. It named Ocean Cure as a beneficiary and invited both teams and spectators.
Those details explain the eventâs appeal for someone interested in a community race day. They do not establish the final number of crews, a heat-by-heat timetable, race results, or a particular band lineup. The organizerâs page said spectator sites would be announced before the event; the checked page did not establish a designated viewing spot to recommend for a future edition.
Ocean Cure is a Carolina Beach nonprofit focused on beach accessibility and adaptive surfing. Its services include beach-wheelchair and beach-walker loans, adaptive surfing, and seasonal beach mats. Supporting that work is a reason to follow the regatta, but the beneficiaryâs mission is not proof that every spectator route or viewing area is accessible.
Yacht basin, municipal marina, and the lake
Use the yacht basin location in the organizerâs next event notice. The 2026 listing gave 100 Carl Winner Drive; the Town of Carolina Beach municipal marina page gives 110 Carl Winner Drive and identifies public parking and restrooms there. These are nearby reference points with different address numbers, not interchangeable event-entrance instructions.
Carolina Beach Lake is a separate freshwater lake and is not the regatta venue. Our movies at the lake guide covers that different outing. At the yacht basin, follow event signs for public viewing and avoid treating private docks as spectator areas.
If you need step-free access, seating, or an accessible restroom, ask the organizer for a route from the actual parking/drop-off point to the viewing area. The townâs facilities page does not confirm an event-specific accessible viewing zone, surface condition, or reserved parking arrangement. Get those answers before traveling rather than rely on the appearance of a marina photo.
Free admission does not mean free parking
The townâs parking page, checked October 4, lists paid parking from March 1 through October 31, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., for standard lots and on-street spaces. Premium lots have year-round enforcement. During the listed season, standard lots are $6 an hour or $25 a day; on-street parking is $5 an hour. Premium lots are $7 an hour or $35 a day.
A September event therefore needs a parking budget even when watching is free. Arriving before 9 a.m. does not make an all-day stay free, and a lot used for event staging may not be available for parking. Check the posted terms at your chosen space, the town parking map, and the organizerâs current layout. Rates and seasonal rules must be checked again for the next edition.
For comparisons with other beach towns, use our Wilmington-area parking guide. If you are visiting Carolina Beach now, plan around currently open attractions rather than the expired race schedule; the Carolina Beach neighborhood guide is a broader starting point.
Before planning the next edition
| Question | What to confirm with the organizer |
|---|---|
| When is the next regatta? | Published date, edition, start/end times, and any postponement |
| Where can spectators stand? | Public viewing locations, entrances, restricted docks, and event layout |
| Can I enter a team? | Registration opening/closing, fees or fundraising requirements, equipment, and practice arrangements |
| What happens in bad weather? | Official delay/cancellation notices and where updates will appear |
| What access is provided? | Step-free route, drop-off, accessible parking/restrooms, and viewing arrangements |
The organizer links a team-registration form from its 2026 page. A surviving form is not proof that registration has opened for a new edition. Contact the Island Men and identify the year you are asking about before submitting anything or arranging a crew.
For weather, follow organizer and venue instructions. Protected water does not establish that racing can proceed during wind, lightning, or other hazardous conditions. A future visit should depend on the announced operating status, not a personal guess about whether a grey morning looks suitable.
Where to check for the next announcement
Use the Island Menâs events calendar and the social channels linked from its official regatta page. Once a new date and spectator arrangements are published, those can support a new visit plan. Until then, use this page for background on the past 2026 listing and questions to ask the organizer.
